RYA Powerboat Level 1 Course

To provide a practical introduction to boathandling and safety in powerboats.

1 day

No prior boating experience is necessary. The course suits those keen to try powerboating as a taster session, or is the perfect course for younger children.

Minimum age is 8 years old.
8 to 11 year olds will receive the Level 1 certificate which will be endorsed to state that the holder should only use powered craft under the supervision of a responsible adult on board the craft. 12 to 16 year olds will receive a Level 1 certificate which will be endorsed to state that the holder should only use powered craft under the supervision of a responsible adult.

Practical:

• Launch & recovery (8-11 year olds to observe this session only)
• Preparation of boat & crew
• Boat handling
• Picking up & securing to a mooring buoy
• Leaving and coming alongside
• Towing

Theory:

• Loading & balancing the boat
• Local byelaws and insurance
• Awareness of other water users, including effect of wash
• Application of collision regulations
